West Las Vegas Community

The West Last Vegas estimated population is at 1.5 million. Las Vegas does not have a personal income tax. There is also no state income, inheritance, gift or estate taxes.

West Las Vegas are part of the Clark County School District.  It ranks as the sixth-largest school district in the country. The district is providing $3.5 billion to construct 88 new schools through 2008 for it's building program.  It strives to provide everyday for it's existing areas as well.

Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is one of the best and biggest community colleges in the United States. The campus is located in three different areas serving over 26,000 students in 17 different fields of study.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is growing almost as fast as Las Vegas itself. The student body now stands at over 20,000, with a graduate population of over 4,000 . The University offers more than 148 undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in its eight colleges. UNLV is recognized nationally for its criminal justice, social work programs, and hotel management.

The population boom has resulted in great opportunities for new businesses and more jobs. Las Vegas has consistently maintained the highest new job growth in the country.

West Las Vegas History

Spanish traders traveling to Los Angeles along the Spanish Trail in the early 1700's searched for a route that would pass through the unexplored Las Vegas Valley. The Spaniards referred to the route through the valley as the journey of death. Rafael Rivera, a young scout, was the first of European ancestry to see the valley. His discovery was a valley with abundant wild grasses growing and plenty of water.  The valley was thereafter known as  Las Vegas, which is Spanish for "The Meadows."

West Las Vegas Recreation

There are 48 golf courses in and surrounding Las Vegas.  A quarter of those are private and over half offer housing directly on the course. On a smaller scale, miniature golf courses range from the customary to the extravagant level and deliver fantastic family entertainment.

The Las Vegas area is an ideal city for countless kinds recreational and sightseeing activities. For the water seekers, Lake Mead's deep blue waters and 550 miles of shorelines are welcome to boaters, water skiers, swimmers, and people hoping to catch some fish. Mountain adventurers will find Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston thrilling for hiking, rock climbing and outdoor photography.  Mt. Charleston is ideal for the skier.  You can find many other ski slopes and winter fun within a short driving distance from Las Vegas.  Not far from here is the incredible Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Death Valley, and the Valley of Fire.
